In Place Of A Back Brace

I tried on DidiBuli’s back brace in the office last week cos my back hurt so bad, she suggested wearing it will help curb the pain.
Curb the pain, it did not, but it did make me realise how bad my posture is in the office so i’m trying to sit up straighter.
(By the way, wearing a back brace is PAINFUL!)

Today i accidentally discovered a cheaper (and more fashionable) replacement for a back brace.

A corset.

Hmm wait, the back brace costs around RM300+ (for the custom-made one) and this corset… may be around the same price, i’m not sure (it was a gift).

I’m wearing a Justin Yap denim corset to work today cos i’m attending his fashion show (Fashion Flirt at Attic) tonight, and promised i’d wear one of his pieces.

Goddamn, i’m sitting up straight today.

What. A. Long. Day.

I dragged myself to work and because i felt like i was going to get sick, i wrapped two scarves around myself at my desk.

By 4pm, it felt like 1pm.
Because it was all, “OH MY GOD. Where did the day go? It’s 4 already?!”

After a meeting with Paolo, i rested the side of my head on my moleskine.
“I can’t believe its only Wednesday,” he sighed, “It feels like a week has passed!”
“Paolo… it’s Tuesday.”
“Oh my god.”

Then I had to go for the Chelsea Vs Selangor match at Shah Alam Stadium for work.
The Football Gods must be throwing back all the vengeance i’ve lashed out at them over the course of my life, as it was a grueling journey just to get there - a 2-hour jam.

SarChan and i chatted nonsense in the car.
We sang to Alphabeat.
We thought how nice it would be if we could organize a girlie club night.
We cursed at all the kiasu drivers coming within two inches of my car trying to cut queue at the toll (while i was whispering please don’t scratch my new car please don’t scratch my new car!)

We derived a magnificent system in our heads on how to handle ass drivers on the road.
So it’s imaginary and in our head. We can dream.

Imagine if every time you wanted to report someone for being as Ass Driver, you could make a formal complaint on a website by submitting their license plate number. Of course, you’d have to submit your own license number as well, and every report against someone is a Black Mark.
And when a driver has 50 Black Marks upon his name, “His license will be pulled…” said SarChan.
“For a year.”
“No la, a bit long right… say… two months.”
“Two months is okay, one month is okay too.”
“Yeah la, one month.”

Yeah we were obviously too free and had road beef.

Okay i’m going to eat my dinner now. Yes i know it’s 1am.

MTV Asia Awards - Last Call On How You CAN GO.

mtv asia awards

The much-awaited MTV Asia Awards will finally be taking place this Saturday night (2nd August) in Genting Arena of Stars!

I recently blogged how the MTV Asia Awards Mosh Pit auditions were coming up and i went to play busybody at it two Saturdays ago.

Celcom for MTV Asia Awards 2008

‘Tis a rare occasion you see a line outside Zouk KL in the daytime. All these enthusiastic kids were queuing up for ages and screaming for the camera when it panned to them.

When you think about it, it doesn’t take much to audition for the mosh pit spots and you get free transportation and a front row spot at the MTV Asia Awards by doing so.

Besides, the mosh pit or backstage will be where the action be happening.

DJs Utt and Jin hosting the auditions inside.

People were let in to the Zouk main room in groups (around 15 ppl) at a time to shake and pop and go as mental as they could on the dance floor. As different songs were being played, selected staff went about patting MTV stickers on those that were given the green light into mosh pit territory.

Check out a clip i took.
So much energy, so mad, they really made it look like fun already!

If you missed out on the mosh pit auditions, pity that.

With personalities like Jared Leto and Karen Mok hosting the awards, Pussycat Dolls opening (daymn…), Leona Lewis, and some of the best acts in the region performing (and oh, not even mentioning the names attending it because they’re not performing, but going to party!); it will undoubtedly. Be. The. Biggest. Event in South East Asia this Saturday. Hands down.

There are still other ways to get yourself to it if you pay attention :xwinky:

You can win 2 tix in 2 easy steps.

Step 1: Type XPAX MTV and send it 28881
Step 2: Reload RM10 or more into your Xpax and stand a chance to be one of the 6 daily winners to get a pair of tickets.

Easy peasy.

You’d be amazed how people don’t try for contests nowadays hence your higher chances of winning. They just want things thrown at them for free, which is what Xpax is doing anyway!

Uncle Laitong

I’ve been quite M.I.A. from some events and things cos i’m just plain too busy with work.
I even had to skip Lapsap’s 1st Anniversary :xbummed:
Sorry guys, but looking at the pictures, i know i’m more sorry than you!

At the end of the day, i don’t want to be staring at the pc anymore (unless it’s to catch up on ANTM or giving Cashmere Mafia a shot) hence lack of blogging.

In a sense i think i’m going through one of those blog-pms phases, where i don’t feel like writing, i don’t know what to write about, i *have* things to write about, but i feel no enthusiasm for it. And atop that, i have no time to write!

So why push it, huh?

I say do it because i want to :xwinky:

Some random pictures from last week at the Onitsuka Tiger event at Zouk.

SarChan stared at me when i walked into office that particular day, “… I swear my grandmother has a top like that… exactly like that!”
“I’m not surprised… i think it’s really old, i just altered it much shorter.”

I found it at one of the junk sales from either Ah Xu or Ethan, i can’t remember, and its startling print grabbed me right away despite its awkward length ending below the knees. Yeah, it was very grannie. So i sent it to alter. Goddammit, altering it cost the same as the dress -_- Total price: rm40

Cheong LaiTong @ NN Gallery

Also went to Uncle Laitong’s art exhibition at NN Gallery last weekend (see how backdated my blogging is!?).
I first met Uncle Laitong when my Aunt Gerry came down from London last December and took me to meet her old friends from back in her time in Leo Burnett.
Incidentally, Uncle Laitong is… DikHaHaHau’s dad.

Small world.

I remember having dinner with his family, Dik couldn’t join us and he smsed, “I can’t believe you’re having dinner with my family while i’m stuck in the office.”

Hee hee.

So anyhoo, Dik called me up last week reminding me that his dad’s exhibition was launching and whether i wanted to go.
Of course i did!
I saw the preliminary splashes on canvas sitting around their house in December and wanted to see the end results!

We went for our favourite pork ball noodles in Lucky Gardens before heading to NN Gallery in Ampang.
Luckily he drove.
I would have got so lost (though i just saw they *do* have a map)

There are 26 new works in what is Laitong’s 12th solo series.

You know the murals on the National Museum? Uncle Laitong designed those :xpleased:

“The murals at the National Museum were designed in the post-Merdeka years and they take on a deeper significance as we celebrate 50 years of independence. The artist talks to WILSON HENRY about the experience, satisfaction and nude controversy.

IT has been a familiar and enduring sight at Jalan Travers for over four decades — the two long murals on Malaysian culture and history done with little bits of Venetian glass mosaic.

Glinting and gleaming in the midday sun, the murals at the National Museum, each measuring 35 by 6 metres, depict scenes of the country’s rich and colourful past, and its rich culture.

Cheong Laitong is standing on the grounds outside the National Museum, which is now being restored and renovated, looking at the murals he designed.” (Excerpt from article on Cheong Laitong in the News Straits Times by Wilson Henry. Read more here.)

Laitong
I stared at the paintings for approximately ten minutes at a time, sometimes more, letting my vision space out till the splashes of colour moved and flowed, revealing faint patterns under layering upon layering of paint.

It was amazing! I was having so much fun spacing out, watching what the paintings would do.
I told DIkHaHaHau about it and he asked me what i’m on. -_-
“I’m not on anything, i’m sober okay! It’s just… moving!”
He mentioned i should keep statements like those to myself, though he did admit there was some 3D effect going on.

I like how No. 18 would look in my room.
No. 14 showed me a vision of a black coral-like forest with clouds and mist floating gently behind it. (it flowed to the left btw >.< i just had to say that)
I’m not a big fan of green+orange but No. 24 moved the most for me, constantly melting and twisting, and because it moved the most its one of my favourites.
No. 25 had a lot of layering and a multitude of shapes and images that’d emerge and withdraw slowly.

It was so weird… but i loved it.

Too bad one costs around half my car or more.

Fairy Backdated :(

You know that feeling - the one where you’re a kid in school, you bring this pencil box which you just got and you think is SO cool, happily showing it off to the nonchalant kid who sits next to you, only to hear them say it was the In thing last year, nobody uses pencil boxes like that anymore, laughs, and you feel like a reject?

I’m 25 and i felt like that yesterday:

“Didi! I just put a new playlist on my iTunes, it’s so happy!”
“Who is it?”
“They’re called Vampire Weekend, soooo happy, i like!”
“… Pfft they’re like, so three months ago!”
 :xbummed:
“… Dude, they’re not even that, it was longer, like last year!”
“Sorry la. I’m not as cool as you. :xsad:

I is lo0ser. :xsad:

Point to note:
Never suggest/tell people in Junk what you’re excited about listening to cos either:
a) They’ve heard/written about it already
b) They’ve already met/interviewed the band/singer
c) It’s not cool enough for them
