Sailing thru six cities with Hennessy XO

Since Clem was away in France last week and Cammy is still in confinement after giving birth, Kenny invited me to attend one of the Hennessy XO event nights to play tag team. I be his social fluffer.

The event was held in Chin Woo Stadium, which was done up real glam inside just for the event, and ran for four nights.

I’m wearing a long dress from Gallo by Thian, and necklace from Oxoloco.
My hair is by The Met.ย

We started the night with some socialising and sipping of Hennessy XO in a large room decorated to look like the interior of an old ship. When we were ushered into the dining area, Kenny pointed out that we were literally stepping on top of a swimming pool. Clear perspex/plastic coverings created a stable (i hoped!) flooring atop water. I thought it was cool and all but didn’t really get the concept till i saw the set up further inside.

This is the side of the dining area, meant to look like the sea. In the middle of the room where all the chairs and tables are, is supposed to be the ship itself, so it’s as if we’re dining on a ship. All the walls around us had moving projections that took us sailing to six cities throughout the night!

While we sailed throughout the world, we also went on a journey of international cuisine.ย In each city we ‘stopped’ at, we sampled a specially-designed dish inspired by its cultural influences. All the dishes that night were personally created by American celebrity chef Lee Anne Wong, who was a finalist in season 1 of Top Chef before acting as culinary producer for four seasons of the show.

The first city we sailed to was Paris (well technically, you can’t sail directly there but don’t be difficult okay!)

In every city we visited, there was a show. For Paris there were the legendary can can girls with all their legs-a-swinging on stage.

My FAVOURITE projection of the entire night was when the RAINBOW of FIREWORKS surrounded us. I think Kenny was trying to talk to me but i shushed him, “Not now Kenny…” while staring wide-eyed at the burst of colour all around me and just absorbed the moment. When i was home later, i told Clem i wanted a 360 degree firework projection wall.

The first dish of the night influenced by France:
Parisian Regalia – Foie Gras Flan, Duck Confit, Green Apple, with Frisee Lettuce.

Oh la la, i’m a big lover of foie gras and having this foie gras flan just took my appreciation for it to the next level. C’est magnifique!

After Paris, we sailed to… China!

Oriental Enchantment – Golden Crab and Corn Soup, Caviar, Lime, Coriander.

I really enjoyed this soup as well. We had to drop the spoon of crab and caviar into it before starting, and it added more texture into the already flavourful soup. I just thought of something. You’re gonna get really bored of hearing me say i ‘really enjoyed’ every single dish because i did! That night was such a gastronomic treat… it’s torturing me a lil bit to even remember it right now cos the moment is over. But at least i had it! (Half cup full.)

Our third stop was the concrete jungle were dreams are made of.

Western Allure – Salmon atop Cowboy-style peanuts, with Okra, Browned Butter and Citrus.

This was such an interesting combination of flavours and crunchy textures thanks to the okra and peanuts. Something i wish i could order again to have…

Next was Italy! A male Malaysian opera singer took to the stage and i can safely say that i enjoyed his performance the most! It’s been awhile since i’ve heard some opera… I wish i knew his name and did ask someone, but he didn’t know either.

Venetian Ambrosia – Chicken and Porcini Mushroom Ravioli with Truffle-Parmesan Cream

This was the biggest pasta i’ve ever had! Needless to say… it was completely satisfactory.

Russia!

Mazurka Splendour – Syrniki Cheese Curd Fritters, Sour Cream, Dark Fruit Sauce

I was going to say this was my favourite dish but i really loved the first three dishes too. The cheese curd fritters were soft and delicious on the inside, and mixed with the cream and fruit sauce, while navigating a berry covered in sugar to join my spoonful just added to an explosion of sweetjesusmaryandjoseph in my mouth.

Japan was the last stop! By this point i was so full… i couldn’t even sit comfortably in my tight gown.

Nihon Grandeur – Grapefruit Gelee with Cream, Grapefruit Ice, Sesame Brandysnap & Dark Chocolate Ganache

I’m sorry to say that i had to leave promptly after the event.
I JUST HAD TO GO HOME AND GET OUT OF MY DRESS.
I could barely breathe, let alone talk and socialise.

I need to buy a looser formal gown for dinner events like this…

Thank you Hennessy XO for the lovely experience! xxx
