Hennessy Artistry @ Zouk on the 18th

I’ve gone for past Hennessy events before,
at Bliss in May, 2005.
And one with Kevin in 2006 in that whatchucallit glass bar near the Shang.

Hennessy Artistry

I must admit that as a result of all those events they’ve been pulling off with some serious kick-ass musicians performing, every time someone mentions “Hennessy event” i immediately assume i’ll be watching some international musician i’ve never heard of but sourced and brought down for the reason they’re fantastic.
And being the global music campaign they’re trying to be, they do end up exposing these talents to blur cases like me.

Hennessy Artistry

What they’ve always tried to achieve is mixing sound, visual innovation and drinking experiences from around the world at each and every event.

Past Hennessy events in KL in 2007…

Kat DeLuna

Kat DeLuna!

Kat DeLuna

Kat DeLuna

She looks a bit like Jessica Alba, doesn’t she?

Hennessy Artistry

In US, Hennessy had artistes like Pharrell and Fallout Boy performing last year, whereas 2006 saw them pulling in other artistes like Kanye West, Goldfrapp (i likey), The Strokes (i likey too!) and DJ Carl Cox

The first Hennessy Artistry event in KL for 2008 is set to be held at Zouk on Friday, 18th of April.

Zouk KL

Zouk KL

Remember how i wrote about having superlicious cocktails in Anantara @ Bali, and then at Frangi’s when the cocktail-concocting gang were working it there?

Yeah.

Getting *that* right cocktail to push your senses into further bliss is the new thang.
Actually, it’s not that new… been around for awhile, but ppl are catching on now.

Hennessy Artistry

At Hennessy Artistry, you get to try their Hennessy international city cocktails - Hennessy Miami, Hennessy Shanghai, Hennessy Moscow, and Hennessy Paris.
I have no clue what they’re like, but i’ll let you know should you miss out!

Hennessy Artistry

So what sort of music can we expect whilst trying out new drinks to welcome the weekend? (it will be on a Friday after all!)

There’ll be DJ Andrew K, an accomplished performer from Greece.

Hennessy Artistry

Inspired by a wide range of music styles from experimental, downtempo, and jazz to rock and punk (hmm that should be interesting…), he’s played to partygoers spanning from Latin America and Europe to USA.

He has received support from the likes of John Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren, and Armin van Buuren; as well as having over 20 releases on labels such as the renowned Global Underground, Mo-Do, Pure Substance, Armada, Wallop and more.

A bombshell to look out for that night is DJ Keri.

Hennessy Artistry

How can you say no to red hair? Silly
Though i think this is an old picture and it’s not red anymore.

She’s got a real unique look, doesn’t she?
If you’re curious on how it came about, her mix is Choctaw (Native American Indian), German and Creole.

DJ Keri captivates the sounds of breakbeats and progressive house, overlaid with her own angelic vocals.
And it is pretty angelic if you watch the vid below.
Makes me think of words like ‘euphoria’.

With her unique combination of vocal performance and dynamic training, she’s played to tens of thousands of clubbers the world over, stating that her personal mission is to touch as many people as she can with her unusual sound.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see for ourselves how ‘unusual’ her set is.
Winky

Interesting facts for you guys:
- been featured in Playboy (Oct ‘03 and April ‘04), FHM and Maxim mags (ha! i bet that piqued your interest didn’t it…)
- besides being a DJ and singer, she’s also a producer and model

Hennessy Artistry

And representing our homegrown artistes will be DJ/VJ Callen.
If you’re not familiar with Callen’s name, you must at least have heard about the 3-man group he’s a part of - Altered Image.

Hennessy Artistry
L-R: Callen, Terence C, Didjital

Callen has been a familiar face in the KL club scene for years since 1985 which was… shite, that’s when i was 2 years old!

I used to ask PassedOutBen who’s this and who’s that when i first started writing about DJs four years back.
“Ben, who’s Callen?”
“Oh my god. I can’t believe you’re asking me. They will die if they hear you say that!”

POB loves stating that his boys will die hearing me say all sorts of things.
He enlightened me that Callen set up Excessive Records, and after some research, it was obvious that Callen’s a pioneer of our local progressive house movement.

So get ready to experience total sensory overload as he’ll be showcasing his special brand of visual wizardry alongside the night’s live performance.

Cool

18th April does sound like one heck of a night, and i’m definitely going Winky

This post is brought to you by:

They’d Better Get Bomohs.

I’m not going for Sunburst today, but i’m wondering whether it’s going to rain as there’ve been showers every day of late.

Went for Colbie’s showcase yesterday but it was so packed, we decided to forgo the passes and window-shopped instead.
I ended up with a black canvas Jim Thompson bag (on sale!) with colourful fishies on it.
Perfect for chucking notebooks and brollie into for work.

Went to Zouk for the Timeout (pre-launch?), their first issue is for April and i’m on the cover.
Shy
RowdyRudy said i look like an anime character.
QueenKanch said i look like a baby alien -_-
I’m… not used to seeing my face on boards, the screens inside and things.
It’s exciting and cool, definitely!
All the Zouk bouncers were saying how cute i look >.<

Hung with Ash, Kanch, Fai, my bro, and Fai’s banker boys in Velvet for a while before running off to Mansion for DatinTini’s birthday.
That was a must-go.
She kept on saying thank you for coming (drunkard! but she’s allowed) and i was like, “You crazy, woman. Shut it!”

Zouk was pretty empty at first even though the S-man was spinning last night but it filled up after midnight.
The other two weren’t packed as well, think it was due to the rumours of riots, hence heaps of police around different areas.
Heard there was a bomb scare in KLCC yesterday as well.

AHR wasn’t as crazy packed as it usually is on weekends.
Mansion was pretty damn crowded tho!

Saw most of my ex-colleagues and we all launched into ‘i miss yous’ and catching up.
Then drank and Lam went all emo on me saying they never regretted hiring me, but too bad i had to leave, and they know i’m happier where i am now and they’re happy for me. Emo sial. But nice la. Damn long never talk to the fellow.
I sayang Lam Kiss

Then this good-looking white chap (who was introduced to us a bit earlier) took Lam’s glass, poured its contents away on the carpet.
“That dude just poured my drink away -_-”  said Lam.
“What..! That’s damn rude.”

The guy saw us looking down at the table and asked whether it was our glass.
Lam said yes.
The guy said he was looking for an empty glass.

Whatevah

I was just getting annoyed because first of all, i have this personal vendetta against white dudes who come into kl and think they can do whatever they want in clubs and get away with it. Secondly, he’s also pretty cute. And er, i usually put hot dudes down to idiocy till proven innocent. Sorry, it’s unfair and shit but that’s just how my mind ticks. And his actions so weren’t helping his case. The only side he did have on his case was he was DikHaHaHau’s friend and i trust him to hang out with fly folk.
Because i’m not working in my previous position anymore, i don’t have to maintain superPRface with people and i told Lam so.

“Well,” i said unsmilingly to white dude, “You just poured his drink unto the floor. -_- “
He apologised.
I was like, er, okay, so? Do something about it -_-
He apologised and offered to buy us drinks.
I said dunnit la, and it’s okay, apology accepted, malas to layan already.
He asked whether we’re okay with cranberry vodka, then he ran off.
And benar-benar came back with drinks for us.
We said thank you.

And i thought, well, he did act courteously for a clubbing faux pas he made.
Guess next time i meet DikHaHaHau’s friends, got chop of approval straight away :p

Guinness + St Patrick’s Day

advertorial

St. Patrick’s Day is almost upon us and despite the popularity of its celebration not widespread amongst Malaysians, you can’t deny being constantly reminded of it by all these ads Guinness has been circulating.

When someone mentions St. Patrick’s Day, images of leprechauns and four-leaved clovers spring to mind.
Silly
I happened to be in Edinburgh on this particular day in 2001, and i didn’t know what was going on.
People were yelling and laughing and going “Cheers!” to people passing the pubs.
Guys were racing around carrying flags on their backs and whooping away (rugby i think)
Younger ones were running down the street, wearing tall silly hats.
And drinking. A lot of drinking.

“What’s going on..!?” i asked my friends who’re all from there.
“It’s St. Patrick’s Day. I guess you don’t celebrate it back home…”

I remember partying like crazy with them.
But those people don’t need a celebration/excuse to party at any rate.

Because Guinness also has a rich heritage dating back 250 years, it has somehow become synonymous with the holiday (appearing in my reading up about it, even on bbc.co.uk!)

In conjunction with the holiday this year, Guinness appointed celebrity chef Emmanuel Stroobant to infuse Guinness with cuisine. The main man for Chef in Black demonstrated the versatility of Guinness not just as a beverage, but also it’s ability in playing a key role in dishes.

“Guinness Draught has such a rich and distinctive flavour that goes well with almost anything, although my personal favourite is rack of lamb glazed with some Guinness. Simply succulent and distinctly Guinness.”
- Emmanuel Stroobant

Of course, seeing that not all of us are fortunate to get him as a personal chef (even for half an hour!) you can still treat yourself to a bite of Guinness-inspired food at six participating bars and outlets in Klang Valley throughout the whole month of March, woo hoo!

Sorry to those living elsewhere, next time Winky

Jarrod & Rawlins on Jalan Dungun are one of the six outlets, and i was just there with LaughingLoga two weeks back (but the promotion hadn’t started yet).
I had a prawn avocado sandwich, streaky bacon and Guinness Draught.
He had dynamite sausages and… i forgot Shy (cos i only nicked his dynamite sausages).

Last Tuesday, i drove there with new KLue writer, Priya, who thankfully showed me directions even though she just got back from New York and i really should be the one who’s not such a lost mouse.

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Our drink orders were taken and someone said, “You don’t have to have Guinness if you don’t want to…”

Oh dude. You have no idea how often i drink Guinness Draught.

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Chorizo, salami, mushrooms + peppers.

I didn’t even have to be surprised at what i ate there cos i’ve been going to Jarrod & Rawlins ever since they opened their first outlet in Hartamas and it has always been a preferred restaurant for me to catch up with friends.
If i want something heavy, i’d go for their pies, mash or steaks. Medium rare, please.
If i want something light, i’d go for their sandwiches (prawn avocado, mmm)
And i always wash it down with either shiraz or Guinness Draught.

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Serrano ham (below), king island cheddar, feta, and peppers stuffed with feta.

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

All the appetizers complimented the Guinness Draught, and we couldn’t stop going, “Mmm…”
Priya doesn’t even fancy peppers but she ended up with one in her mouth!

Then came the lamb ribs, which are the Guinness promotion specialty.

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Guinness + Jarrod & Rawlins

Grilled Iberian pork ribs and crumbed pork pattie served with caramelized Guinness mustard glaze, dried cherry tomato, butter mashed beetroot, yogurt and sautée arugula (like rocket).

RM62++

It was fantastic.

Initially i was trying to maintain and cut the meat off with my knife and fork, but after a while, i decided to screw the idea and delicately held it with my fingers to gnaw on.
I couldn’t help it. The ribs would be insulted if i pathetically tried in vain to eat it.
That’s the way ribs are meant to be eaten *crosses arms and nods sagely*

When i asked chef Jacob how he found cooking with Guinness, he replied, “Certain people find it difficult to work with Guinness but i’m fine with it, it’s my first time working it with pork but it works!”

If this has piqued your interest, you can go to these outlets to try their Guinness dishes there:
(plus: you can also redeem limited edition Guinness St. Patrick’s Day merchandise when you order Guinness Draught at these participating outlets)

WILD!, DreamerCyn’s Birthday, 21 (again >.<) + Werner’s.

I take so many pictures all the time that when i do have time to blog, i end up blogging the most recent ones.
I’m still SO lagging in blogging about stuff that happened over Christmas (old news already -_-), Chiang Mai and Vietnam.
Oh well, better some then none!

Went for dinner to catch up with JustinYap at Twenty.one.
Always wanted to eat there again since the first time i ate with DatinTini, RowdyRudy and a few others.
I remember the food was fantastic, but then again, we were drunk at the time and it could be tipsy tongues-a-tasting. So had to go back and see whether what i remembered was true.

Justin Yap in the house.

I ordered my regular choc orange martini.
Actually, i didn’t order it.

The waiter went, “Choc orange martini?” before i even said it. Whatevah
And after dinner (which was fantastic, we shared a platter of starters and i had salmon for main) when we retreated upstairs to the bar for more cocktails, the bartender up there did the same thing too.

“Chocolate orange martini right?”
“… urm heh yeah.”

Maybe i should order other drinks to put them off tangent next time.
Laughing
But then i won’t get to drink my favourite choc orange martini…
Bummed

Twentyone Kitchen

Justin and i tak habis-habis talking, so we went to check out the newly-refurbished Frangi’s after that.
Well, *i* went to check it out, he’d already been for the relaunch that was on the night i was hiding at home, pei-ing myself with cough mixture and passing out.

Frangipani

Seeing Frangi’s hasn’t been of popular partying destination for some time, they were bound to turn to a face lift (frangi-lift? nah, that makes me think of frangipanty… and panty-lift instead 0_o sorry lari topic) to make it a puller again.

Heard it was massively packed a week ago.

Their specialty cocktail prices have jumped from RM28 to RM34.
Alamak.

Inflation, cost of other things, bla bla bla yeah i understand la.

Not the Frangipanty

Friday night i went to Aliyaa restaurant and bar (next to Jarrod & Rawlins on Jalan Dungun) for DreamerCyn’s birthday.

Cynthia Pavee.
AhPek (i’m sure he has a proper name…) and DreamerCyn

The bride-to-be, the fairy & the matron of honour.
BubblesAmanda, me, Geraldine

There have been countless occasions in which i have forgotten Geraldine’s name… i’m so sorry, i is suck >.<

BubblesAmanda’s getting married soon and guess what her wedding theme is…

FAIRIES!!! Laughing

*hears groans from people all around*

Now, now, *wags finger* just because someone else appreciates the glory and allure of fairies, to the point it’s their wedding theme haha!, doesn’t mean you have to make some noise.

She told me that some sponsors have stepped in for her wedding - including Annie Wong Couture, Guinness Anchor Berhad, A Cut Above and Montecom Bhd. - for which in return, she’d have their logos on her wedding invitations and stage backdrop.
I told her that i’d list them out during her wedding as well, as friend and wedding favour. Laughing

It seems to me that this trend of getting sponsors for your wedding seems to be taking off of late. I’m not against it or anything, oh, except for maybe this email i got that KennySia blogged about as well. But i think it only works if you know someone from the company or have someone hook you up nicely. There was another person who’s getting married whom i’m not close to. They asked me to help them get sponsors for their wedding -_- I get that you’re trying to save money, but i just think you’re going about it the wrong way. Ask and you shall receive, true, but have some surefire jalan la. Another one is when these people get sponsors (i didn’t bother finding out how many they’ve got), they go great lengths trying to get media to attend their wedding. ARGH. A wedding is supposed to be a celebrated union of love! Not some event where you have to layan media! Unless you’re a semi-socialite or semi-brity that the media themselves have interest in covering, i can’t bear the thought of people having the gall to publicize their wedding when fuck, weddings happen every day okay. Yours is to happen once in a lifetime and by doing so, it seems to me you’ve degraded the sanctity of the event.

Ok. Habis emo :p Moving along…

In honour of Cynthia Pavee ;)
Henry, Halina, AhPek (man, what IS his real name?), DreamerCyn, me.

Saturday was the first day Werner’s bar was to be open to public.
It’s just down the road from Twentyone on Changkat Bukit Bintang.

Little gossinfo:
Werner’s is owned by, well, Werner, who also owns El Cerdo just across the road.
It’s also designed by d plus m creative who did Twentyone.

Werner’s

It’s not actually finished yet, so… maybe you shouldn’t go till they’re done as to fully experience the place.

Werner’s

Werner’s

Upstairs. I love the lights!

Werner’s

‘Twas Gary’s birthday. Fellow drunk already.
Didi (Jimibot’s mummy Winky), Siti, Maruki(? shite i forgot her name), Gary, fairy, Olivia.
Werner’s

This is Werner.
He literally stuffed my face with ham in El Cerdo’s the other day.

Werner’s

This is… Klaus… i think… (man, i seriously need memory seminars or something)
He helped Werner out with the alcohol at the bar.

I dragged KinkyPugKevin out with me that night, despite him not being sure whether he felt like going out or not.
After i managed to yank myself away from the pc and election results, i finally picked him up at 12:30 am.
Damn late.

KEVIN YEOH!

We had more of a chilled-out night, checking PietroFelix spinning in Frangi, saying hi to his fiancee Joanne, saying hi to MadcapperSa and TomHayton.
Then ran to Werner.
And ended up in Twentyone.
As always. >.<

As i was eating, i saw a strange phenomenon right before my eyes.
A child.
Sitting.
On QueenKanch’s lap.

Kanch hates kids.

She says abominable things such as, “If i have two children, of course i’d layan the prettier one more,” and “Of course i’ll have children, they’re an investment.”
To which Ash will beg her not to have kids while i choke with laughter.

So there she was. With a kid on her lap.
And she was teaching her how to read *faints*

Kanch: No, read it again. You’re not listening to me. If you don’t get it right we’re not going to the next page.

Lareyna squirmed on Kanch’s lap, but i must say Kanch was very patient and gentle.

Okay damn random, i know.
Was surfing through FoxyLisa’s Facebook and she put her only activity as: feeding Claire…

!!!

I believe in fairies!

Doesn’t she looks so different already from my last post on her?

Awww…

The last time we met up with FoxyLisa, i passed LilClaire’s Christmas pressie to her.
FoxyLisa: Oh, Loke Cheng says no fairy presents.
Me: Too late! Laughing *whips present out*

Okay. Must sleep. TA!

“I Went To Feed The Fish!”

I kept on telling everyone that the week before Christmas.
Because we didn’t have much work to do, DatinTini and i ran out of the office and IceCalvin joined us cos he wasn’t doing any shoots that day.

So there we were hang-kai-ing (i just learnt the word hang kai ha ha!) around Pavilion and in order to kill time to avoid the jam, i dragged them to go try the Kenko Reflexology Fish Spa, just next to GSC.

I met the owner on the night of the La Bodega launch and promised i’d try it some day.
Basically you get to put your legs into water whereby these tiny fish eat your dead skin thus exfoliating them.

Weird right? I’m all for trying something new!

As you walk into the spa centre, a huge tank faces you and you get to see how it looks like…

Kenko

Kenko

Before you put your legs in, they make you wash your feet first.

Kenko

Then you slip on these generic turquoise slippers everyone wears, keeping your shoes on one of the shelves provided. No locks.
Me: “What if… someone steals my shoes..!?” Shocked *thinks of 300+ shoes*
Calvin: “Urm… hide them la.”

I must say… the room where everyone removes and keeps their shoes… stinks of feet a bit.
Not downright unbearable, but a lingering stench nonetheless.
They really should put stronger air freshener or something.

Kenko

Then we went to dunk our legs into the tank!
It was super ticklish at first and us three couldn’t stop laughing and squealing.

Kenko

Kenko

RM39 nett for 30 minutes. I think.
We paid 39 bucks… but we sat there for 45 minutes cos nooone shoo-ed us, so i’m not sure of the time limit :p

I wanted to try the Belon but they were sold out that day.
