Had a perfect Friday night armed with food and wine and best friends.
‘Cept Steph couldn’t make it

Aps brought foie gras and fromage
Dhanya made a killer pineapple and apple salad
I brought one and a half Ayamas chickens and shiraz

I meant to bring one chicken…
but Ayamas is having some crazy promo where if you buy 1 chicken (rm27)
you can have another half for rm1.
At first i said no to the girl at the counter cos i thought it’d be too much food,
but she repeated herself.
Prollie couldn’t believe i was turning down half chicken for rm1.
I faltered and took it.

Um oh!
And i got myself some new Shu Uemura eyeshadows.
Went into Sephora KLCC at first,
got so intimadated by so many products with fancy packaging
and walked out.
Dunno la, i get so headache figuring out what is what and i already have lots of staples.
Was really looking for something i don’t already have.

Went to Shu to buy new eyebrow pencil (my one pencil lasted more than 3 years!)
and saw they have new BRIGHT eyeshadows which i reckon i can pull off for a party 

So besides eyebrow pencil,
ended up with 4 bright eyecolours (hving a promo where palette is free, sucker i am)
and new eyeshadow base so colours will pop more.

Oli helped with the gravy while JP sipped beer.
The recipe is from Nigella’s Feast cookbook that Aps gave me.
What goes around comes around.

Dinner was supposed to be at 8pm.
Oli and JP arrived at 8:30 and they were the earliest.
Fai forgot his wallet and had to turn back halfway
Clem was working till late.
We didn’t really care what time everyone came.
As long as they turned up!

I got lost trying to walk Oli to the right lift
and she said i fail.
We started eating cos JP had a shoot early next morn.
The lamb was perfect pink and tender
and the potatoes were addictive.
I discovered that one clove of garlic does not equal to one bulb.

Nick made us drink shots every time the table fell silent for 3 seconds.
Tequila with cinnamon and lemon is dangerous.
Cammy tried to make me snap a picture of her with a fridge magnet as her hat.
I took a video of the idiocy instead.
Was immediately forbidden to post it up anywhere online.
Aps and Cammy were MFEO and incidentally wore matching black tutus.
Kenny thinks tutus are weird to wear out.

Dhanya turned up really late
but i’m happy we got to see her!
Clem and i called for a taxi to go home which was 2 minutes drive away.
Neither of us were fit to be behind the wheel.
Taxi fare is nothing compared to the value of our lives.
Never be stingy to take a taxi home if you drink!

The next day i could barely talk cos we’d
chatted and screamed and laughed till our throats hurt.
A night in with some of my best friends is love.

I got my super silky star dress from Sevendays… years ago.
One of those great buys i never regretted!

Couldn’t help taking pic of someone’s large assistant taking care of equally large LV.

Initially i had no intention of doing a party of any sort.
Then Claudia said we should do a girlie birthday mad hatters tea party.
I thought there were two problems with this:
1. i have guy friends too… takkan just have girls?
2. tea party in a tea place = no alcohol. There’s no such thing as a Joyce Party without alcohol. No way.

So i hijacked her enthusiasm and made it into a polka dot party 
I didn’t want any fuss… cos i did enough work at Clem’s party,
just wanted a simple drinking thing at dLegends pub with all our alco kaki friends.
Between Clouds and i, we know hundreds of people…
but we decided to keep it small (like a wedding haha) to close friends who DRINK.

On our FB invite, we implored friends to come in polka dots
and Claudia threatened to bring her Sharpie on to them if not.
People were calling me day before and day of party: “Hey… i really don’t have anything in polka dots, how? Is Claudia going to DRAW ON ME?!”
and Big Ben was vainly saying: “Of all the patterns… you have to pick the most unflattering one!”

I semangatly painted polka dots on my face with Buncho,
then did Claudia.

You know, it amazes me how one of the birthday girls herself doesn’t adhere to the theme at her own party
In Claudia’s defense, she stuck dot stickers on her bra (pls don’t ask me about this) and was wearing a tiny polka dot top at first, then pulled on this top i gave her instead.

I always embarrass him like this (and possibly myself too but i’m immune to that).
The last time i did it was at the MTV Asia Awards and Sarah had to physically cover my mouth.

Busy busy so can’t muck around on the blog much today!

Which is terrible and lazy, i know.
But it feels SO GOOD to just stay at home, make drinks, watch DVDs and just hang out with each other sometimes.

I couldn’t help thinking, “I can’t believe it, my favourite thing to do on a Saturday night is stay in with Clem.” 

To give us some credit, we did some major running around Shanghai for a full week,
so much so till i got blisters which he bought plasters for.

Not knowing how to say ‘plaster’ in mandarin to the girl in the pharmacy,
he played charades and acted out something cutting him,
blood spurting out with a wooshing sound and sticking something on with a smile.

She immediately handed him a box of band-aids.

Another reason i’ve been so reluctant to go out, is a new book i’m currently stuck on.
After finishing The Last Empress on my last day in Shanghai (i thought it apt to read a book about China while in China!),
i couldn’t find a single magazine nor book in English in the Huang Zhou airport and resorted to Clem’s World Without End.
Previously, i’d turned my nose up at his book, not comprehending what could be so interesting about life in the 1300s.
And he was trying his best to get me to read it.

Now that i’ve started, i’ve been making excuses for him to entertain himself with something other than me so i can curl up on the bed to read.
2 days and over 300 pages later, i was ignoring his pleas for me to get out of bed so we could go out and eat.
After he tried for an hour, StephTheVolcano smsed me out of nowhere,
saying we were having an impromptu girlie meet up.
I suddenly found some enthusiasm to get out of the apartment and jumped out of bed to take a shower.

Me: No. *denial* I want to own a guesthouse by the beach… or in the forest when i grow up!

It’d be awesome.
I can decorate each room in all the crazy ways i want.
