Clem’s 32nd Birthday @ Lust KL

Clem turned 32 last week and we initially planned to celebrate it at Awanmulan like how i did last year, but his company scheduled a work trip to France on the same dates so we had to cancel. Then last minute, the client canceled the work trip -_- So he had no plans and was feeling all depressed about how he wouldn’t have a birthday cos we had no time to plan it.

Seeing i’ve never thrown him a surprise party before, i discussed it with Tai Yong of Lust and we put together a party for one week before Clem’s birthday (so it wouldn’t be so obvious, see). I purposely wanted to have it at Lust cos they play old-school R&B and hip hop every Friday night and it’s the kind of music Clem loves, and most of us miss and love dancing to it too.

Tai Yong remembered how Clem walked into Lust one day saying, “Just call me Clem Flizzow” and took it upon himself to make the sign without telling me. So. Many. Points.

Oh yeah before Lust, we had a dinner at MediTeca with the group of frenchies and the LohLohs.

I wanted to laugh when Melati wrote on a chat that French people take so long to leave a place. Cos it’s SO TRUE. I was panicking like shit and didn’t want people at Lust to wait, but these bloody drunk French guys (who were IN on the surprise for Clem btw and KNEW we had to be at Lust at a certain time) kept on ordering more drinks and getting more drunk and taking SO LONG to leave even the CAR PARK. But i could also blame Kenny for ordering a bottle of tequila before we even had starters -_- You guys kinda suck. (If you notice, someone lost their shoe in the picture). Seriously, it was only around 11pm!

FINALLY arrived at Lust and Clem was well and truly surprised. Tai Yong wasn’t around but Andrew was there to take care of us. Thank you so much guys!!! I didn’t expect so many things thrown in from doing our party there – like the personalized shirt you made for Clem, the kick ass sign, tons of balloons, the champagne, etc! You certainly raise the bar.

First weekend of 2013

It guilts me slightly that i post about last weekend before New Year’s eve itself but i figure nobody will die least of all me. Kenny invited a couple of couples for Korean dinner to celebrate Cammy’s 29th birthday ^.^ It has been months too long since i’ve had Korean, perhaps because it always ends with a shoju hangover the next day.

Cammy asked why i had a pony in my clutch. Well. IN CASE i need it. You never know when the pony could have missed out on some fun and i’d feel bad for not bringing them out to play.

Birthday girl and pony and fairy and shot of shoju.

Bulgogi. God we ate so much i had to stand up after.

My 29th Birthday :) @ Awanmulan

This is going to be one of the longest posts on my blog. Ever. I’m writing this from KLCC while waiting for an event to start and couldn’t think of anything else better to do than blog! Time waits for no man (or fairy).

Birthdays. Yes, i wanted to say this – Just recently my friends and i have been agreeing that the older we get, the better life gets. You learn more about yourself and what you like and don’t like. Along with that, you start earning more money to DO all these things you like even MORE. You start filtering friends who feed positivity into your life, and surround yourself with them more and more. You start feeling that you miss your family more and thus start spending more time and being more patient with them than our terrible teenage selves were (well, i was definitely a terrible teenage self).

On my side, i have started feeling that i’m not as invincible as i used to be. I get scared hearing of people my age getting sicknesses and diseases that we never had to worry about before. I make sure my insurance plan gets paid so *touch wood* if anything happens, all is taken care of.

I have started looking at life as a much longer journey than my short sightedness previously did. I used to think i would die young (don’t ask me why, maybe it’s a writer thing), and i used to feel that i would be okay with it.

Now i’m not so okay with it.

I would like to live long and healthy. And do lots of happy things. I see a lot of things in front of me that i can’t wait to get started on, but i know i’ll get to do it all in time.

So for me, i don’t relate to those quips of “Oh, i’m getting a year older, this sucks”. I LOVE getting older. (This is not the same meaning as ‘i LOVE getting old’ but i’m nowhere near old yet so i can give myself a few more decades.)

Another thing that made me appreciate my birthday this year is a recent incident that happened to a friend’s friend. A few weeks ago i tweeted about an 11-year-old girl who urgently needed blood donations. Lots of people retweeted it and i heard that lots of volunteers went to the hospital to help her (THANK YOU very much). Tragically, she passed away a few days later. My friend told me about the funeral in a bar when we met up for Guinness and we cried.

On the day before my birthday, i thought about that little girl who had passed away. It seemed so terribly unfair for a CHILD to die. I wouldn’t know how i would be able to handle it if my child died. And as i thought about how life is given and taken, i gave thanks to the Universe that i am alive. I am alive at 29 and i am GRATEFUL for it. I could not even have existed or BE here, but HERE i am. And it’s a damn well good reason to celebrate.

Okay i’m finished with my spiel, so on to my actual birthday. The night before, my mom cooked my favourite dish one of my favourite dishes (too many of hers to say it’s my fave!) – fish head curry. Being so considerate, she even cooked extra non-spicy dishes for Clem in case he didn’t fancy the fish head curry so much. In the end he whacked them all.

After family dinner, Clem and i went home where i prepped burgers to take for my birthday BBQ the next day.

OK OK to update you – my birthday plan this year was to book the whole of Awanmulan and invite 23 friends to drink, BBQ, chill, dance, and swim. I just wanted to get out of the city, and bring a whole bunch of people along for the ride. I said that i’d prepare as much food as i could, while everyone paid for their own bed/room. I think i was a bit mad to want to prep food for so many people… it was exciting to prep and pack it there, but oh… to clean and pack stuff up home was a nightmare. And i was so hungover i’m glad to say that i have a very loving boyfriend and friends who did all the cleaning and packing the day after the party :D :D :D

Some of us convoyed at 12pm so we could be there around 1pm. But you know la, Malaysian timing, someone (not me!!) was late and we finally took off 40 minutes later. It was okay, no rush anyway.

I was so happy Yishyene happened to be in KL when my birthday was going on! She made me this card/picture frame thing above which is currently placed in my mini zoo at home. I almost thought she wasn’t coming when she whatsapped me: “Joyce… don’t kill me…”
And i was thinking, OH MAN SHE’S GONNA CANCEL ON ME! and considering how to react in a mature and adult manner.
Then she wrote: “I made brownies for you but…”
PHEW. Turns out the brownies were hard tho i never got to try one…

Yishyene had this idea where everyone who attended could paint something on me. I told someone about her stupid idea and they said, “It’s a GREAT IDEA!” Yeah. Cos you’re not the one being painted! I was already envisioning someone painting a giant cock on me. No thanks. Let’s keep the paint for another time…

Meesh & Clouds

Clouds & Kevin brought Wallis. And that blue shirt. Is still in my car, KEVIN. So many people hungoverly left their things at Awanmulan the day after, and we had to bring it back to KL for them. Someone even thought he lost something there, but turns out he just found it yesterday…………. in his own house. Cos he never even brought it. -_- What a champ.

Oh Rudy, such a man of style.

Which straight man you know goes to a forest looking like that? I had to grab a picture.

I didn’t think of asking Rudy at first cos he always has to spin at Daikanyama on Sat nights. But i tried anyway and AM SO GLAD you came! You definitely needed to get out of the city ;)

My birthday dress! From Topshop <3 Oh BTW there are MANY pictures in this post which are all STOLEN from Tania, Steph, Meesh, Sa, Ming, Deep, etc. Sorry i’m not crediting you for every individual picture cos……… i fed you that night? Heh.

Mah trusty kaleidoscope

You can see Rudy! Just try a bit harder than you think you are right now.

Me and my beloved spinner; Cammy with the new GIANT CIRCLE OF PEACE Yishyene gave me; and Steph with a lilac feather boa Clouds gave me. After this party i realise not only do i need a massive house to keep all my clothes, but a huge room JUST for TOYS as well.

When people started eating junk food in the afternoon, i decided it was time to start cooking burgers instead of filling their stomachs up with snacks. Above is Cammy helping me, and Kenny pretending to help us.

Tania, me, and… OH MING you just had to play with food in THAT way

“It’s my birthday.”

I was sitting on the floor with a huge blue plastic bowl of minced meat, herbs and sun-dried tomatoes in front of me. Squishing my hands into the mixture, i slowly made pork and beef burgers one by one. Dammit! My stomach is itchy what the hell? My stomach is NEVER itchy, and now, when i have minced meat up to my wrists, of course it has to be itchy. It just has to.

I tried scratching it rather pathetically with my elbow. About five times.

Then i felt something biting me on my leg and saw a blasted mosquito casually sitting on my knee. That bastard! I knew it was you! For a few days i was convinced there were invisible mosquitoes in the house.

“What’s wrong?” Clem asked.
“There’s a bloody mosquito attacking me!”
“Do you want to spray something?”
I think of poisonous spray seeping into my exposed mince meat and immediately shake my head, “No…”
“Hmm okay then” *settles back to play his game*
“You know what you should do? You should just… try to catch it while it’s around me. It’ll come out, i know it will.”
“Come on, it’s my birthday.”
*sighs and hovers slowly around me, trying to spot mozzie*
“Why did you have to wear black? These moskeetoes, they’re very smart, they like black.”

He successfully managed to catch it after 2 minutes. See! It wasn’t difficult!

After i was done with making burgers, i got up to go shower.

“You wanna watch that video i told you about?”
“What video?”
“The funny one, i told you about it the other day.”
“Ohhh that one. Erm not now… *quickly walking away to shower*”
“You’re never gonna watch it.”

“Ha… now? ….. It’s my birthday!”
“Are you going to say that all day?”

Yup. It’s the only day i can WIN all day.

Happy Birthday Kenny!

Pix from a birthday dinner gathering at Aria, Bukit Damansara
to celebrate Kenny and Min’s upcoming birthdays

I had duck tortellini with foie gras   :xlaughing:

Kenny rides a Vespa on the weekends

Cammy = Kenny’s wife
Crazy holiday wedding coming soon!

Alicia + Marcel

Matt + Serena

Kenny looks like he’s wishing awfully hard!
I’m guessing for 5 children? Haha.

Clem, Kenny, Matt

Clem passing out before the dinner cos he was so tired from shopping.
Shopping for himself only occurs once every 8 months.

Other instagrams i shot last week.

Went to Klang for a meeting.
Highlight of that was having bak kut teh after!

‘Twas so good i had 1 and half plates of rice.
Shocked my new colleagues who think i don’t eat much :p

Had a perfect Friday night armed with food and wine and best friends.
‘Cept Steph couldn’t make it   :xbummed:

Cammy provided her place and nasi lemak
Aps brought foie gras and fromage
Dhanya made a killer pineapple and apple salad
I brought one and a half Ayamas chickens and shiraz

I meant to bring one chicken…
but Ayamas is having some crazy promo where if you buy 1 chicken (rm27)
you can have another half for rm1.
At first i said no to the girl at the counter cos i thought it’d be too much food,
but she repeated herself.
Prollie couldn’t believe i was turning down half chicken for rm1.
I faltered and took it.

Um oh!
And i got myself some new Shu Uemura eyeshadows.
Went into Sephora KLCC at first,
got so intimadated by so many products with fancy packaging
and walked out.
Dunno la, i get so headache figuring out what is what and i already have lots of staples.
Was really looking for something i don’t already have.

Went to Shu to buy new eyebrow pencil (my one pencil lasted more than 3 years!)
and saw they have new BRIGHT eyeshadows which i reckon i can pull off for a party   :xwinky:

So besides eyebrow pencil,
ended up with 4 bright eyecolours (hving a promo where palette is free, sucker i am)
and new eyeshadow base so colours will pop more.

Bye bye rm400   :xwhatevah:

Apsy’s Belated Birthday Dinner

Jess and i cooked roast lamb and sticky garlic potatoes.
She wanted to make flower garlands cos it was Midsummer’s Day in Sweden
but we didn’t have time.
So the three bunches of flowers she bought sat pretty on the table.

Oli helped with the gravy while JP sipped beer.
The recipe is from Nigella’s Feast cookbook that Aps gave me.
What goes around comes around.

Dinner was supposed to be at 8pm.
Oli and JP arrived at 8:30 and they were the earliest.
Fai forgot his wallet and had to turn back halfway
Clem was working till late.
We didn’t really care what time everyone came.
As long as they turned up!

I got lost trying to walk Oli to the right lift
and she said i fail.
We started eating cos JP had a shoot early next morn.
The lamb was perfect pink and tender
and the potatoes were addictive.
I discovered that one clove of garlic does not equal to one bulb.

Nick made us drink shots every time the table fell silent for 3 seconds.
Tequila with cinnamon and lemon is dangerous.
Cammy tried to make me snap a picture of her with a fridge magnet as her hat.
I took a video of the idiocy instead.
Was immediately forbidden to post it up anywhere online.
Aps and Cammy were MFEO and incidentally wore matching black tutus.
Kenny thinks tutus are weird to wear out.

Dhanya turned up really late
but i’m happy we got to see her!
Clem and i called for a taxi to go home which was 2 minutes drive away.
Neither of us were fit to be behind the wheel.
Taxi fare is nothing compared to the value of our lives.
Never be stingy to take a taxi home if you drink!

The next day i could barely talk cos we’d
chatted and screamed and laughed till our throats hurt.
A night in with some of my best friends is love.
