Shopping

I love my MasterCard…
I’ve had it for almost a decade now and it’s so convenient when i travel cos i don’t have to worry about carrying excess cash around when i want to shop.
Speaking of shopping, i recently blogged that the Great Singapore Sale is on till 24th July. (This is the time my MasterCard is itching to come out and play :p)
My first proper experience with the Great Singapore Sale was in 2008.
Was flown down by LG to attend a launch with other members of the media,
but being as multi-talented as i am, i managed to fit in shopping time
My blogpost back then was aptly entitled – I’m BACK! And Broke.
Excerpt from that post:
+ + +
The Singapore Sale is still on and i contributed a worthy sum to their economy.
Lugged back treasures from MNG (i happened to be free on their FIRST day of sale. The Shopping Gods love me), Marc Jacobs, BCBG, Nine West and oh god i can’t remember.
I’m still on adrenaline shopping high.
Bernard from Mobile World Magazine looked down at all my bags at the airport, “Wow, worked hard, i see!”
“Yeah, man. Lots of research.”
+ + +
I think that was one of the first times i treated myself to a slightly more expensive range of clothes and shoes, and i’ve never turned back.
There’s a reason why certain things cost more…
the quality speaks for itself!
This BCBG dress i bought is a lush drapey silk,
it fits me wonderfully,
makes my butt look perkier,
and i will never sell it off.
It’ll be one of those pieces i’ll keep for years to come in my wardrobe because it’s such a classic beautiful piece!
Ever since then i’ve trusted that BCBG’s small sizes will fit me perfecto.
New pieces from their website:
Love the extended drape, but your body’s gotta be bangin’ to carry this off!
Hello, monotone colour blocking!
Minimal graphics on silk can’t fail.
If you’re a tourist in Singapore and use a MasterCard,
you get additional 5% off discounted items,
and 10% off regular-priced items >
There are a whole bunch of brands where tourists get additional discounts during the Great Singapore Sale!
Another brand is Karen Millen.
Here i wear a silver Karen Millen jacket in London.
I borrowed it from my aunt tee hee
+ + +
Topshop is also in the tourist discount list!
Every single fashion-loving girl i know owns Topshop. No question.
The Tourist Exclusive deals also includes Miss Selfridge, Warehouse, Dorothy Perkins and Topman!
+ + +
For energy to shop, MasterCard also has some pretty rocking discounts on dining.
Promos like 10-25% off buffets/ala carte dishes/beverages,
and return dining vouchers of S$30 when you spend S$300.
Participating outlets – Brunch, Global Kitchen, 10 at Claymore, Keyaki, Atrium, Hai Tien Lo, Zambuca, Spice Brasserie, Plaza Brasserie.
*promos vary for each outlet, do refer to separate T&C
+ + +
If you’re worried about where you’re going to stay to rest your tired tootsies,
there are a number of hotel promos going on as well! >
An example would be:
Other participating hotels include: Pan Pacific Orchard, Pan Pacific Singapore, Sheraton Towers, Ascott Raffles Place, York Hotel, Goodwood Park Hotel, Hotel Fort Canning.
*promos vary for each hotel, do refer to separate T&C
For more details on discounts and privileges,
visit www.mastercard.com.my !
As if all the discounts aren’t enough, there’s a lucky draw
whereby if you shop Tax Free with Global Blue in Singapore,
you stand a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip back!
+ + +
If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, there’s a new app called mCompass by MasterCard.
I tried using it and it’s REALLY easy with no lagging whatsoever!
Polls – I can create polls on Facebook to ask my friends about their opinions on anything i’ve bought or intend to buy!
It was really easy, just had to upload pic, fill in details and connect with my FB account.
Once it goes up, i can track the number of votes received for it.
At first i was thinking this may NOT be a good idea… cos i don’t want to let Clem know about everything i bought
Fret not girlfriends and wives who feel the same, there’s a PRIVATE function so only a selected group of friends can view it!
Woohoo!
You can also choose whether it appears on your FB wall or not:

Deals - I entered in my location as Malaysia (you can also choose Thailand or Singapore) and with this, i get to search, track and locate MasterCard Privileges by category and location. I can also share my favourite deals with my Buddies.
Buddies - they’re shopping friends i choose on Facebook. Easy to edit the list of friends at any time!
To install it for FREE, search for ‘mCompass’ in your app store!

You missed out if you didn’t go for this massive market on Saturday.
3 fantastic flea markets combined.
Perhaps the only clout they didn’t have is a flea market ONLY involving fashion bloggers

Shiny shiny vintage i had my eye on. RM70.
But it was massive… so i decided against it.

Geometric felt necklaces handmade by Mas Angelina.
I already nabbed the biggest brightest one she made. RM65.

SarChan and i arguing over whether i should get these locally-made sunhats.
Look at the vintage-like fabric! TOO CUTE.
I tried it one and… it sat atop my head cos it’s for babies!
Dammit.
Got it anyway as reserve baby presents.

Metal necklaces i admired. I can’t wear them.
My snobby skin reacts to anything non-gold/silver.

Thought of Clouds when i saw pandas cos she cray crazy for them.
At Old Blossom Box Store.

Hand-painted rings at Oh and Ah

Cutest ring i’ve seen all year, at Oh and Ah. RM38.

Isabel just turned 2. She didn’t want to share her blue cupcake with me.
I told her daddy Odin she’s got attitude.
Me: Who does she get it from!
Him: No idea… *looks quietly at wife*
Me: Good answer! Hahahha

me and Ming Da Bomb

Ming does denim on denim

This is my friend Sueann. This is how she sits in public.
With her muffled voice coming through her striped shirt.
At that point my phone batt died so no pix of SarChan and me.
I was so hungover from Aps’ belated birthday dinner the night before
but so glad i went!
Think i don’t see the ex-Freeform people enough.
Had fun pottering around with SarChan, poking at things,
spending money, laughing at my hungover antics.
I had a yummy sashimi set lunch at Hanazen,
bought 2 kites (1 for RM6, 2 for RM10. The chinese in me went for 2),
a Marni-like necklace from Pretty Little Freaks,
and other happy colourful stuff.

There’s another flea market coming up that will be one of the biggest in KL this year!
Music, art, performances, food, drink, shopping.

A few quick snaps off my iPhone at Chic Pop today!

SueAnn + i

Sun of Lah Lah Land above.
Everytime i tell myself i won’t be buying much at a flea market,
all that’s shot to shit once i see her stall there.
Vintage.
Patterns.
Colour.
Kitsch.
Irresistible.

Rengee + Jess

Trying out one of the filters Jess bought.
SarChan on right.
I walked one round.
Spent RM200.
Had some KBF readers take pictures of me.
Had 3 beers.
And the best was the sitting around doing nothing talking about something.

I haven’t been blogging or going out much cos i’ve been quite sick since i got back from Spain.
Caught a bad cough i bet someone on the tour passed to my dad and i.
Rested at home on Saturday night and took my cough med (yay!) before going to sleep,
so i would be all semangat on Sunday to take part in All for the Charity,
a charity flea market organised by Streething and Femmething.

Thanks to Streething for putting me in the Main Room,
which was (dauntingly) filled with all the cool streetwear stuff 0_-
I didn’t take many pictures that day,
was too busy having fun drinking and talking

Huh. Just noticed both boyfriends are Brian.
See why cartoon names are useful to differentiate

MaintainMing aka MingDaBomb
(think gonna just officially change his cartoon name to what he wants la :p)

I don’t think i’ve seen bids go so well at a flea market before..!
All items donated by brands such as Nike and Nooka were going for hundreds of ringgit,
with every cent donated to the charities (noted below at end of post).

Unseen TV shooting some of my items

I was a bit naughty and abandoned my own stall for a while (tee hee) to join Aps, Jess and RowdyRudy for a drink outside at Terrace Bar.
Rudy has asked Jess and i to be on his team for some hat-making contest for Zouk (where if we win, the prize $ of RM5k goes to a charity of our choice),
and the three of us (mainly Rudy and i) started arguing whose idea was better,
with me declaring i’ll just start my OWN hat-making team cos he didn’t wanna listen to mine,
and both us ended up talking over each other simultaneously like OOC (Out Of Control) 10-year-olds,
till Aps was trying to shush us cos ppl were staring >.<
I adore that love-hate sibling rivalry we have.
At the end of the event, some of the stalls were lowering the prices for certain things as low as RM50 a pair of sneakers.
Crazy.
Everyone just grabbed at stuff!
I myself bought a Lapsap shirt for RM20
So did Jess
I convinced RowdyRudy he needed this shirt from Singapore for RM90 and a watch for RM100
Streething x Femmething x all the vendors/sponsors managed to raise RM30k RM35k in a day!
Absolutely fantastic.
All $ raised is to be donated to Kiwanis Malaysia, the Haiti Relief Fund through UNICEF, Furry Friends Farm and Kechara Soup Kitchen.

After i puppy-dog-eyed Jess and RowdyRudy into helping me pack up and load my car,
i counted my money.
*cough*
All the money that i made went to:
1. donation/rental fee
2. my alcohol expenditure for the day
HAHA
It’s like i buka kedai for fun (donate $ & feed myself alco -_-)
Well, i did want to get some of those items off me… i have no more space to store them,
and i just want them to go to someone who would use and love them.
I remember one girl trying to decide whether to buy this mirrored bib necklace i sourced,
and i evilly whispered to her: “If you don’t get it after looking at it this much, you’ll just go home and think about it and totally REGRET not buying it. You might as well get it. I got it in Bangkok last month and haven’t seen any shops here selling it yet.”
She ran off to get money and bought it right away.
Anyway, after the whole event and congratulating Chooee on a successful event,
us three (the 2 Js and the double R) went off to have dinner at Bermuda & Onion at Changkat BB.
Food was great (or maybe cos we were that drunk) and i had a brill Sunday in all!

A few new things i got this week
*shuts out cries of YOU HAVE TOO MUCH STUFF*

Full sequined jacket

Silk purple top

Chain fringe necklace + silver studded bowtie!

And a canary necklace Justin got me from HK

+ + + + +
I went to change some RM and SGD to Euros for Spain,
and have to say, i *used* to be good at math,
but now i really suck.
Thank the fairies for my Blackberry
I just surf for the currency converter and let it do the calculating for me,
while waiting for the dude to calculate it on his side
(just so i don’t get conned!)
Since i got my Blackberry, i’ve been using Xpax’s RM2.50 a day plan,
where i get unlimited access to all i need to do using my Blackberry.
Now, it just got better for me cos of a new promo they’re having
By subscribing to the BlackBerry® Advance (2.5G) for RM 2.50 per day plan,
i get free subscriptions on the weekends, after 5 consecutive weekdays of using the plan!
So that means for a week, i only pay RM12.50 for unlimited data use, including push email.
Which also equals to RM50 for 4 weeks.
Quite value kan?

RowdyRudy asked me to teman him pick a suit,
and i readily agreed to play freelance consultant.
I Qweeted where to get men’s suits in KL,
and got some answers like:
Massimo Dutti, Club Monaco, Ted Baker, Zara, Topshop, Hugo Boss, etc.
We happened to be next to Topshop first, so we went in.
I bit my lip and steadied myself not to be distracted by women’s clothing,
and to stick to the plot
STICK TO THE PLOT JOYCE
At the men’s section, RR’s eyes went wide.
“I am NOT wearing that. That is so gay.”
“Can you just wait and not shoot everything down?” i laughed.
In another store:
“That looks stupid. Are you SURE you want me to wear that?!”
“Look, *i* don’t want to be on stage with someone who doesn’t look good ok trust me!”
5 stores, some changing room action and a lot of swearing later,
he got his suit,
and i…
managed to pick up a few winter items to wear in Spain next week.
I know, i know right,
i am going to borrow some coats from fairy-sized friends like Aps and Ashley,
but an enthusiastic conversation ensued in Zara.
“…The coats in Zara are on sale!”
“And those are SO you.”
“Exactly, think of all the fun layering you can do with them.”
“And you’d look great in pictures!”
“Look, it’s warm knit. So it’s gonna keep you warm and not just a fashion statement.”
“Yeah!”
“I can think of a few ways to wear this with existing items I have already…”
“Should SO get it.”
“But i’m only going for 10 days…”
“So what? You’re definitely going back to Europe this year right? You said you were going to travel more?”
“That’s true.”
“So you see. It’s an INVESTMENT.”
“So. True.”
So i bought 2 coats (RM199 each!) and a thick long-sleeved knit thing for RM100.

Okay right!
The voices in my head always help me make monumental decisions
Later on i was asked whether i’m excited bout going to Barcelona and Madrid.
“Yeah! I get to play around with layering clothes!”
“… are you serious?? -_-”
I can’t believe my joke can be mistaken for real

Oh and these are studded gloves and a knit beanie, with gold lining underneath, i got from Topshop last week.
>.<
