Kuala Kubu Baru

We’d been planning for weeks to make a quick weekend getaway to KKB
and decided that last weekend would be the best for most in our group to make it.
Those who ended up going:
Clem + Mathieu + myself
Jess + Alicia + Deep
NuttyNur + CrazyKylie + 2 of their friends from SG
ClaudiaOnCrack + Kevin

NuttyNur, Clouds + Kevin

This is SO Clouds’ muka distracted

The whole point we go to KKB is to chill, drink, eat,
breathe in the fresh air, play cards, visit the river,
get lost in our own thoughts, and do NOTHING.

Deep chilling

Cassie came to make friends with other cats

Mathieu brought heaps of awesome food to make sandwiches
- smoked ham, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, rocket salad,
and even an onion to slice into it.
And trust me, that onion and hard boiled egg made all the difference in the world!
I simply sat in a corner and cradled my sandwich lovingly before eating it.
Best gila!
I cheated by taking away pizza + calzone + carbonara from an Italian place in KL.

Clem + the devil horns were inseparable since Fri night -_-

We brought lots of beer + vodka + Monopoly Deal! (Read: Best game EVA!)

I buried myself in a book i found on a shelf there, called A Piece of Cake.
We played cards and drank till we were sleepy,
then called it a night and made our beds with sheets we brought from home.
There are mattresses there, along with lots of bugs and dirt,
but hey, i can rough it for a few days max.
Me: “Do you think you can just LIVE here in the forest? It’d be so relaxing…”
Clem: “I don’t know… i need my hot shower.”
Me: -_-
I was lulled out of my sleep the next morning by a bunch of voices steadily chanting, “Clem… Clem… Clem…”
Turns out it was some of the village kids sitting on the steps outside the toilet shack cheering Clem on while he was in there.
Hahaha.

Breakfast was more sandwiches! <3

More reading in a hammock…

Some of the kids came up to colour books and pounce on the food we offered them.

Was a great weekend… and so very lucky there was space for us at Bamboo Palace cos there are a few other travelers staying there too.
Thanks very much Antares!
(I forgot to take pictures with Antares
)
He’s reissued his second album which was first out in 1986.
Called 2nd Coming, it’s been digitally enhanced by Deejay Sanuk aka Daniel Schwörer, a Swiss audio engineer and producer residing in Koh Samui.

Clem and i bought a copy,
and so did Mathieu

Last week, Deep and i took a drive to Kuala Kubu Baru,
for Antares‘ little gathering to celebrate his life (cos he fell ill end of last year).
Thankfully he returned to our world from his coma
and according to him, his friend went into the astral world to find
Antares sitting on a rock, in a sarong, having a cup of tea
I love seeing Antares and listening to him talk…
i always feel like a little kid again.

There were heaps of puppies in the compound,
nibbling,
biting,
trotting about.
I tried my best not to step on a puppy or village kid at night cos i couldn’t see anything in the dark!

Antares on the right, talking to a puppy that didn’t look too well.
Madeline was there too,
and i remember her holding the puppy on the mushroom going,
“Look! Take picture! You’ll be femes!”

After eating, everyone just chilled on the patio,
or the garden.
I spent some time playing pretend with Sharon,
while lying on the grass and looking up at the many stars.

Deep and i spent the night at Bamboo Palace,
where we’d stayed previously.
It’s really basic so i wouldn’t drag my diva friends there :p
I had to use a torchlight to go to the bathroom at night

Woke up the next morning to 5 pairs of little eyes peeping at me.
‘Twas the village kids.
I was so sleepy lazy i continued sleeping
When i woke up, i purposely played Karen O & The Kids,
thinking they would probably like the sound of All is Love or Capsize
and one of them started yelling along to it, trying to get the tune,
so cute!

After breakfast i did NOTHING but lie in a hammock
feel the breeze
let my thoughts float
and hear the leaves rustling

Flipped through this book about how aliens are responsible for the evolution of mankind in the past 2,000 years

Antares playing the guitar and singing.
I LOVE his lyrics… they’re funny, sometimes political, always radical, funny, and they rhyme

A little Buddha figurine someone found randomly in the garden
So it got placed on the table

Spent the afternoon in the river
doing nothing
chilling
thinking
bonding with nature

Look how massive the brown leaf is compared to my foot!

I was deeply fascinated by this seedling (according to Deep, it is)
I just pretended it was some fairy cloak.

So many pix 0_o
Streamyx is doing pretty good for me these days,
but can’t wait for their new 15mbps fiber optic service,
supposed to be all up by March 2010.
Anyway, digressed!
When i got back to KL,
i went for dinner with my Lovelies and met Lauren who’s now based in KL.
DarlingDhanya was telling us how many instruments she plays:
“Violin, piano, guitar, cello, flute…”
Me: Great… i feel so useless. The most productive thing i did today was shred a leaf into tiny pieces and watch it float down a river… -_-
+ + +
Deep also blogged about it *here*

More KKB Pictures

The humble kitchen

Someone said the black dog looks like a pig.
So kesian, don’t listen to him ‘kay? *pats doggie’s head*

Old school! My grandmother used to make mats like that!

Someone took up one of the hammocks pretty quick.

But jumped down when she got thirsty.

TV and DVD player. Don’t mess.

Antares put up pictures of particular orang asli on the walls in the hut.
Amidst them all, i noticed…
“Hey Deep… why is there a picture of an old school white dude there?” *points to upper right*
“Haha! Maybe it’s Francis Light.”
“Hahahaha!!!”

Deep and Antares found a durian at the waterfall.

I was excitedly telling PassedOutBen about something Antares said, “And Ben, you know what! Guess what! Antares said he can see pixie energy surrounding me!
Isn’t that cool! And he doesn’t even know me very well!”
POB: You know what Joyce, there are places for people like your friend and you. They’re called Tanjung Rambutan.
Me: Oh shush drunkard.

I’m Still Sobering Up
From The Weekend
The realisation that Saturday was a public holiday and i didn’t have to work made me scoot off to Kuala Kubu Baru with Deep and gang the moment he asked me

I can actually think of five things i need to do today… quite a bit of stuff
But my brain is seriously not functioning right now
Thank God i don’t need to go into the office today
Lots of nice pictures to put up
But if i do… i won’t edit them cos i really don’t feel up to it
Photoshop is not friendly with me today
Ohmygod la see the way i write masih gone
A Whole Galabazoo of Pix!

Stolen from KPKevin – MareDiva and i
I just had my hair done and white is my colour of the moment
As it brings out the startling red even more!
Catch MareDiva bartending @ Attic this Saturday!
If she doesn’t FFK that is
Running off to the forest on Sat and Sun

I woke up late
Threw two tops and pants into a bag along with three bikinis
Fucked the make up
Just the moisturizer
I thought it was amicable when Deep said, “You can ride with me… but er, my dog is used to sitting in the front… so we might have a problem.”
No shit.
This is while he was behaving for two seconds.

Homey is a pretty big dog.
And he stepped on my stomach, tits and face as he was being super insistent on being in the front.
We gave up after Deep couldn’t drive properly and i got demoted to backseat
-_-
I’d sit in the middle to get the aircon
And he’d keep on shoving his butt in my face

What was WORSE was when he farted in the car..!
I collapsed on the backseat gagging
Dog fart conjures up thoughts of dog shit INSTANTLY
Gross
“Luckily i’m a dog person wei…”
“Yeah man.”
We all stayed in a single storey bungalow by the waterfall
RM500 a night for the whole place
Quite ex la, but if divided by 10 peeps then it’s alright
Plus there’s actually more then enough room for 10 ppl

I did my usual thing, pottered around and took pictures of urm leaves
But you have to admit, this pink one on grey stone is pretty charming

Check out the ‘baru bangun’ look

DreadlockedHenry and his Cream-O

What a geeky grin, ugh

I didn’t even edit the colours on this picture above!
Isn’t it awesome?!

me, Olivia, Sim and Jo
After getting really wasted all day, we went back to KL
Where i hurried to dress up and went for CheesieRingo’s birthday dinner and drinks
Actually. I only joined them for the drinks part cos i was late coming back from KKB
>_<

BracesAaron crashed. Not shy.
… okayla, i forced him to :p

Don’t wanna put KennySia la
Sien
Okay, FaiTheMai just called me
“What you doing?”
“Blogging!”
“What?! (his usual high-pitched tone) Dunnit to work ar?”
“Not today.”
“Good, you can follow me. Pick you up now.”
“Follow you where?!”
“The post office.”
-_-
